10 MORE unanswered questions about Thirteen Reasons Why

I'm continuing from yesterday because I have so many more questions that I have been pondering on all night. If you haven't seen yesterdays post, just scroll down or go to the home page and this will help get a sense of where I am coming from with these questions and my predictions.

  1. Does Skye have a history with Clay? - I feel as though sometime, Clay and Skye may have been an item or had one of those primary school crushes. If there is a second season, I think this relationship will be a main focus.
  2. What is Skye's history? - I feel as though Skye is the character we know least about other than minor characters. It was shown that she cuts herself but never explored why. Whilst I do not have the reasons why, I do believe she and Hannah may have crossed paths and potentially her cutting may have increased when she died.
  3. Will tapes be involved in any future series? - I don't think so. It has been a main part of the first series but I think the second series, if there is one, will take a different spin. If tapes do make a come back, I can feel it going down the Pretty Little Liars route. I don't know how, I just do. Tapes could be alluded to but I don't think they should be brought into the series again as it was Hannah's unique way of sharing her story.
  4. Did Hannah know the impact this would have on Clay? - I don't think she knew the impact these tapes would have on anyone and while some people are calling her a 'bitch' for what she did and put people through, I honestly don't think she realised how much she was loved.
  5. In the final scene, where are Clay, Toby, his boyfriend and Skye driving off to? - If you've read yesterday's post, I think it is one of the first 3 characters listed that is in the back of the ambulance and not Alex or Tyler. If not, where are they actually driving too? I think there's possibly some final information that Toby knows about and that's where he's taking Clay and Skye which would be the start of season 2.
  6. What will come of Jessica? - She has just learned that she was raped at a party where Hannah viewed this and did not tell anyone but did tell people through tapes when she died. Her boyfriend, Justin, also knew this and whilst he did attempt to get Bryce off her, he then waited outside. I feel as though Jessica is an extremely strong person but such a traumatic event will cause problems amongst those on the tapes. Potentially with her telling the police everything about Justin and Bryce.
  7. Did Zach deserve to be on the tapes? - Honestly, I think not. Some people on the tapes carried out disgusting acts. He did however, take away her anonymous notes in communication class which helped with her confidence. I feel as though he was one of the nicest out of the 'jocks' and could have potentially helped Hannah in an unbiased view more than anyone on the tapes.
  8. What will Hannah's parents do with the tapes? - I hope, as adults, they would do the right thing but like I said before, I think Toby knows more than we think he knows which would link to Hannah's parents and by handing over the tapes to the police could cause serious consequences.
  9. Did Hannah's parents have more of an impact on her committing suicide than what it is perceived? I do think so. Even though Hannah did lose their money which we saw, both the Mam and Dad come across as very loving individuals. Again, this is a question everyone could view differently but instead of going to see Mr Porter, why did she feel the need to not at least tell her parent's what was going on in school? Was something other than being her parents, holding her back?
  10. Do any of the minor characters know more than what they let on? - I think Skye, Toby's boyfriend and maybe the person who works behind the counter at the newsagents know a lot more information than it's perceived they do as they aren't on the tapes but I believe they are the source to tie everything together?

I could only think of 10, damn it! If there are any more, I will make another post as I love exploring this series. I hope you've enjoyed reading these and exploring your own answers. I'll be back with one more post tomorrow!

13 unanswered questions I have about Thirteen Reasons Why and predictions

Spoiler alert! If you have not watched Thirteen Reasons Why and are planning on doing so soon, do not read ahead as there will be many spoilers. However, if you have watched then please carry on reading and ponder on the questions :)

  1. Who is in the back of the ambulance? - it is suggested that it is Alex in the back of the ambulance, however, the person in the ambulance has dark brown hair.. I personally think it's one of the characters from the final scene, possibly from a car crash as the final scene includes Clay, Tony, Tony's boyfriend and Skye driving off in Tony's Mustang.
  2. Why does Tyler have so many guns? - people think that Tyler may have shot Alex because he takes his photo down from the 'red room' and it is suggested that Alex is in the back of the ambulance. Some people also suggest that he is going to cause a mass shooting but removed Alex's photo because Alex had been kind to him when he was pinned up against the locker. I don't think there's anything sinister in it, but rather for our minds to play in overdrive. Or perhaps its a hobby at a shooting range? I mean, parents go into their children's rooms often and it would be a bit odd for the Mam not to have seen a massive black container..
  3. If it is Alex in the ambulance, did he try to kill himself and why? - some people think that Alex is in the ambulance because he felt guilty as to what happened with Hannah and he is seen cleaning his room, something which Hannah done before committing suicide. If it is Alex in the ambulance though, I think it would be for a different reason which we don't know about yet.
  4. Will Mr Porter listen to the tapes? - I don't think he will and there will be consequences for those on the tapes. I think Tony knows more than what we think he knows.
  5. Will Bryce be sentenced? - Bryce is on the tapes for rape and this is obviously an offence. With him committing this crime, will he be sentenced or will nobody tell the authorities? I think he will be sentenced, I mean come on! What an injustice it would bring.
  6. If they don't tell the authorities, why? - I think honestly, the authorities will be told. Especially not that Hannah's parents have the tapes.
  7. Will the other people on the tapes be prosecuted for withholding information? - I don't think so. But honestly, they should.
  8. What will Justin do with the gun? - some people think it is Justin in the ambulance. However, I think Justin may kill his mother's boyfriend and flee with the money and start a new life. But, a lot of people do want Justin's character to return so this may not be the route the producers go down
  9. On that note, will there be a second season? - I honestly do think so but the producers need to do it in such a careful way and not to take away from the seriousness of the first series. There are rumours about the second season being the reaction of those on the tapes receiving them but also rumours about following the characters one year on.. I feel the latter the best option.
  10. Why did Hannah trust Toby? - Like I've said before, I think Toby knows a lot more than he makes off and I think this would be something for producers to explore if there was another season. We only really see Hannah interacting with Toby at school and after the school dance. I think that Toby was the one person she had least interaction and history with and saw a gentle personality, entrusting Toby with a lot of information. Others may have tried to listen to the tapes and stop her.
  11. Why didn't she give others the option to stop her? - Hannah went to Mr Porter and said in the tapes she hoped he would try to stop her or talk her down from what she was feeling but never. Obviously this question would be extremely debatable but if she expressed that she wanted someone to talk her out of it, why didn't she go to Clay or her parents? I think Hannah thought Mr Porter would give her good advice from a 'stranger' rather than coming from people she knew loved her and would try and stop her and potentially 'baby' her thereafter.
  12. Why didn't Sheri ring the police after she heard the tapes? - It took Clay to talk to her in order for her to ring the police about crashing her car into the stop sign and causing death and destruction. She knew the tapes were being passed around to other people so why didn't she see fit to speak to the police about what she had done as it didn't directly link to the tapes? I think Sheri thought everyone would keep her secret like she had with everyone elses but with her kind personality, I question if there was another reason (other than causing death and not wanting to tell her Dad) that she didn't want to ring the police.
  13. What will Clay do with all this information? - I was very surprised that it was Toby who passed the tapes on to Hannah's parents and not Clay. He passed the tapes onto Mr Porter but he still has knowledge about everything, like everyone else. Will he force the others to speak out about what they have done, even if that means another beating up from Bryce or will he tell the authorities? I believe Clay has a good head on his shoulders and he will end up telling the police a lot of details about crimes committed but I believe he will not go into detail about Jessica and Alex being boyfriend and girlfriend and leaving out Hannah, Jessica hitting Hannah.. things not deemed 'criminal' unless you deem a slap criminal? I also believe he will go out of his way to protect Sheri.
What are your thoughts? I would love to hear them! I have 2 more of these posts relating to Thirteen Reasons Why in the next 2 days so I hope you enjoy them.

Thirteen Reasons Why people are talking about Thirteen Reasons Why

I got this idea in my head to start doing a chain of 'Thirteen Reasons Why' posts starting on a Thursday because it started with the same sound.. odd, yes. However, it means 4 blog posts in 1 week!

I'm currently in the middle of writing my dissertation but my brain needed to jump on the Thirteen Reasons Why bandwagon and see what all the fuss was about.. I'm glad I did!

  1. You can binge watch the whole show! - Yes, that's right. The show is on my beloved Netflix and whilst it's 13 episodes long, it is easy to go through the whole thing in one sitting.
  2. It looks at sensitive issues from a different perspective - The Thirteen Reasons Why series has a lot of different issues intertwined between the story lines and whilst some people argue that it makes some issues look inferior to others in the way it plays out, I think that it helps others, especially younger viewers, to know the difference between what is considered 'overstepping the mark'. I do not want to create any spoilers in this post but if you have watched it, you probably will know what I mean. If not, when you watch the programme you will realise what I'm talking about.
  3. It raises awareness - The show itself is great and therefore, the reaction from viewers has been incredible. By googling Thirteen Reasons Why, the website is actually a source of helplines for anyone having any issues raised in the programme (or for other reasons). It also gives people signs on what to look out for if somebody may need help or support.
  4. It gets people talking - Not only does it raise awareness, it gets people talking. Whether this be in forums to voice their opinions, to people actually going to get help and support which is wonderful. This point kinda relates to point 4 but it is so much different. It enables people to talk about problems in such a way that a helpline or support group can't do. It also paves the way to get into conversations about alternative endings..
  5. The suspense - My gosh does it leave you on a cliff hanger and so many unanswered questions! I hope there is a season 2, if not I understand due to the complexities of issues people may have about delving deeper but honestly, if it turns out to be a pile of poop (which I really do not think it will be) along as it saves one person's life then it is so worth it.
  6. Everyone has their own perspective - You learn through the series that everyone has a different take on certain scenarios and makes you empathise with certain characters. The show could have been made to make everyone look evil but it explores their own demons which enables the viewer to see that not everyone looks at a situation in the same way and we need to be careful in what is said or done or to apologise, make amends as soon as possible and to not let the story 'get ugly'.
  7. It's unlike anything we've ever seen before - Unless I've been living under a rock, I've never seen anything like this in my life. The way it is set up, the storyline, characters.. everything. It is pure genius and shares such a special message.
  8. It has a book! - If you're not a Netflix junkie like me or just prefer to books, it is based on a novel by Jay Asher. Whilst I have not read it, I have seen many reviews to say it is just as good as the Netflix series, if not better.
  9. Anyone can enjoy it - It's one of those series where you don't have to be of a set demographic. Anybody from any age, race, culture, any sort of background can either relate or enjoy the show. Just because the main actors and actresses are young, does not mean it's for a teenage audience.
  10. Cyber bullying - In this age, there are new ways to taunt and bully people, especially through the use of technology. Numerous photos are sent around of different characters and whilst this is the first series I've seen on cyberbullying, 'Cyberbully' was the first film I had ever seen. It shows how one photo can change a person's life and allows the viewer to explore a different side to bullying.

Obviously, there are some down sides to this programme which I do not want to go into detail as over text, it is very easy to insult someone which I do not want to come across as if I am doing. There are some things in the series which I'm like 'AAAAH, WHY DIDN'T YOU DO THIS?!' or 'WHY DIDN'T YOU DO THAT?!' but it made me a lot more aware of people's perceptions and individuals ideas of right and wrong.

If you are reading this for advice, as much as I would love to help, I am not a professional. If you need help, please go online to the Thirteen Reasons Why website and select your country to get information on who to contact.
